The Generations Building

The Illinois Association of Museums granted its 2021 Award of Excellence to the Generations Building

The Generations Building made its debut on May 1, 2021 as “The New Building”; in 2023  it was renamed as “The Generations Building” in dedication to the “Greatest Generation” that saved this country and probably the world from totalitarianism. The world that we live in today would be much different if not for their sacrifices in World War II. Much of the equipment you will see in this building was designed, built and used by that same “generation”.

As the rest of the buildings on campus, it is home of multiple exhibitions. The military display includes a 1947 Aeronca L-16 “Grasshopper” airplane, a 1952 Ford military Jeep, a 1967 MUTT (Military Utility Tactical Truck), service uniforms, medals and additional military memorabilia. A large collection of Caterpillar vintage heavy equipment join the beautifully-restored 1931 Ahrens Fox fire truck in the Great Hall, and a newly-acquired 1916 Avery 5-10 Tractor, made in Peoria.

The Upper Gallery includes textiles, Peoria history and the “Bricks in motion” LEGO® display.

A multimedia room offers an appealing gathering space and hosts special exhibitions.

The wrap around veranda provides shaded space for rest and picnic tables.
